What kind of scope rings do i need?
Have a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 being shipped to me... Mounting it on my AR. What kind of rings do I need? Forget manufacturers, I mean specs... 1" rings? 30mm rings? Searched all over but can't seem to find it..

You are kinda lost here. Your specs will say what type of rings. They always do. You will about never, ever see a scope with a 40mm front objective lens use 30mm rings. The 30mm scope tube is an advancement to promote the transmission of light better - and - is totally wasted on a small 40mm lens unless over the top optical coatings are being used.
The much bigger issue - is this mounting on your carry handle, or, do you have a flat top? Just saying AR means nothing. Most shooters with a flatop are unhappy mounting a scope directly to the receiver - it's too low and causes neck strain big time Most will put a 1/2" or 3/4" solid bed to raise it, and, maybe add a set of inexpensive 1/2" stepper beds on that. The 'up' side to this extra hardware - getting it in quick release is inexpensve...... a heck of allot more inexpensive than quick release bases!
If this is on your carry handle - then you want the lowest rings available - keep it from being too high.
The important thing is be sure to spend some time at the range checking the height before you sight it in. No sense wasting time and bullets if it hurts your neck and you have to move it.
Not all rings are created equal. The nicer, more expensive rings will fit your scope better and not leave marks after a few years. Avoid ones that use standard screws - get a model with torx - you can get more uniform pressure on the rings, and, this means less torquing to the scope. When your torque a scope - it works great on day one, but, the zoom seems to get tighter each month. This is the scope body getting bent - and never goes back on it's own.
