Nikon scope of Leupold scope?

I am torn between which scope to put on my browning .300 WSM. I have always been a fan of the leupold and was going to purchase a VX-III 4-14x50mm BC, However my dad who is a much more avid hunter all of a sudden swears by nikon saying how much more light they let in. The Nikon Monarch 4-16x50 BDC is $100 cheaper. Are they about the same quality or do i not dare stray from old faithful Leupold. All input is appreciated even if another suggestion.

Schmidt & Bender 8x56 awesome scope mounted on a .308

However to answer your question I'd choose the Leupold over the Nikon.
