Question about sighting a scope.?
I went to the gun show this weekend with my brother in law and he picked up a new bolt action .308 with a scope already mounted. We went to the range to work with it. It's an indoor range that only goes out to 50 yards. At 50 yards, the thing was shooting about 6 inches high out of the box. The adjustments on the scope were 1 click = 1/4 MOA. I told him at 50 yards, you need to crank the height knob down about 48 clicks or so to get it in the ballpark. The range officer looked at it and told him that was too much to be adjusting and that he should take it back and have them re-mount it. He thought it might be mounted wrong.
What do you think, with the limited information you have here?
I would not even contemplate zeroing in my sight at such a short range.
6" out at 50 yards may be bang on at 200yards.
Over hear in the uk, when working with sight we work with the theory of 4 clicks to an inch. So 6" out in one direction is 24 clicks.
