Help with Mil-Dot calculations?
So when you're trying to find the range of the target using the mil-dot scope and you find the range in yards what do you do next? Like how do you know which knob to turn without firing a shot first? If anyone has any info that could help me with any and all things about mil-dot calculations please let me know.
I feel I really need to add some details about myself and this question. I have family in the military, my dad was a fly fishing and hunting guide in Colorado. I have been hunting since I was nine, using all sorts of rifles, military and civilian for years. The only thing I haven't messed with much is mil-dots. I can adjust any other scope and i'm not asking which is for elevation or windage. I'm asking after you know the range how do you know which knob to turn so the bullet will go where you aim "without firing a single shot"? Think sniper here, the only sniper in the family is away on duty so I can't ask him. So, does anyone know the answer to this question?
Your top knob is to adjust for elevation, and the knob on the side is for wind-age or left and right corrections. Some scopes have either 1/4 or 1/8 clicks for adjustment. Fire off a shot if its not bore scoped, then you will figure out where you need to adjust.
