Is the Leica M7 worth the price?

I'm an amateur photographer, but I prefer analog (contrary to the popularity of digital now) and really want a good camera to take mostly B & W photos. Leica is a renowned name for their high quality optics and cameras, but around 4000 for the M7 starting kit is a lot of money. If I bought it I'd be hoping it's the kind of purchase where I'll never really need to buy another analog camera. Any owner's out there have any advice? I want a camera that performs well for landscapes as well as close portraits, night photos, etc. Any help or experiences with the M7 would be MUCH appreciated. Also, if anyone knows where I could get a better deal on this camera I'd be even more grateful.

Well while the Leica camera is a superb 35mm camera, you can still find some good used M series Leica cameras and lenses, so you would be getting more bang for the buck.

I still use an M2 and M3 from time to time when a rangefinder camera is the best choice for the assignment. For most of my professional shooting, I use Nikon 35mm SLR's or Nikon DSLR's. For what I would pay for a Leica R series 35mm and a few all the lenses I need, I have been able to purchase four Nikon bodies (35mm and digital) and ten lenses.

You may want to look further into photography before you start spending big dollars for a prestigious camera.

It is not about the camera, but about the 12 inches behind it.

Bottom line?

For me, no, it would not be a good investment for my photo business.

For you? You may get so much enjoyment from owning and using it, no price would be too much for you to spend on it.
