Is it worth the extra bucks for a Orion Atlas EQ Mount?

I'm Looking at two telescope mounts, the Sirius EQ 6 and the Atlas EQ 6 both made by Orion. Plan on using the mount with a short optical tube and a DSLR camera, total about 20 lbs. mostly for astrophotography. The Atlas is about $400 more and can be used for larger telescopes, my question is the Sirius good enough for imaging? with light weight scopes? is the go to function worth the extra bucks?

you've got the weight about right: only use about 50% of the mount's capacity if you're doing imaging, and these mounts are rated for 40 pounds. they are nice, hefty mounts, and as long as you can physically handle them, they should do what you want.

have a look in some of the specialized forums, like cloudy nights. there is extensive discussion.

only you can decide if goto is worth the money. some ppl swear by it. others swear at it. icon smile Optical Scope
