Has anyone here had success using omega 3 fatty acids to heal equine stomach ulcers?
Yes, I have been working closley with the barn's vet....with absolutley no success.
I am not spending another $1500 for gastro gard and scoping.
I am looking for alternative therapies, to HEAL suspected stomach ulcers. Blood work indicates a possible bleeding ulcer.
Thanks Becca, horse has never gotten treats..i dont believe in them. his treat is hand grazing on some prime grass... he is on lo sugar/carb feed, unlimited hay, aloe vera juice. i have been reading and omega 3's supposdly help strengthen and theicken the membranes that coat the stomach. i have been trying u gard, but his manure is really loose now and i dont think i will continue it much longer.
we had horses down our yard with stomach ulcers i dont think you can really get rid of them but it doesnt really bother them as long as they are on the correct diet and they dont bleed. the horses that had it weren't allowed any carrots or few etc and some treats they had more hay and just stuck to chaff and pony nuts etc. things that are easy to digest and more natural to their diet than what we would like to treat them with. i agree you shouldnt pay out all that money the owners of these horses did put them on a supplement which cost alot of money but didnt make an awful lot of difference. but once the horses diets were regulated they competed and did what ever really. not sure about omega fatty acids but give it a try however first i would cut out treats and carrots from their diet first and see if it helps gd luck
