what to get with my remington?
ive decided iam going to get the Model 700 SPS Varmint.
iam going to use this for deer hunting, and target/distance shooting
i want to know:
what leupold or nightforce scope to get?
what ammo to use for hunting and what to use for target shooting?
(.308, 30-06, .223?)
after getting the rifle and all that jazz should i change the stocks, barrel, or do anything to tweak or improve its performance?

It is worth the extra couple bucks to get the SPS Stainless; less to worry about the bluing coming off and rust developing in the future. There is no need to change anything on it as it comes out of the box except to add optics. I would get a Leupold 1-piece mount and rings as they are rock solid. The best optics for the $$$ right now is Nikon. Since you are going to be shooting at long distance, I would go with .308 and a Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14x40 or a 6-18x40 depending on max distance.
The ONLY aftermarket item I would consider is a trigger. There is something to be said for a nice clean trigger and accuracy. You could spend tons of cash on a match grade barrel and an adjustable stock but then you might as well buy the Tactical Shooter or the VTR for le$$ overall.
Now on to ammo. THAT will be up to you and trial and error. Each gun seems to be particular and you will have to find out which shoots better for you.
