M16/AR-15 fixed iron sights, carry handle + optics?
On an M16/AR-15, is it possible to have full use of the integrated carrying handle rear sight and fixed front sight while magnifying optics are attached?
ThomasJ: That's what I suspected.
Republican: Bolting anything to the carrying handle will block the view through the iron sights. I thought there might be a way to circumvent that (such as a see-through riser).

Yes, for the M68 CCO(Close Combat Optic)aka "Aimpoint" there is a "Goose Neck" adapter. it mounts through the hole in the carrying handle and allows cowitnessed use of the Iron sights and CCO. Just Make sure the spacer isnt on the CCO Mount.
Though I've never done it, the EO Tech could be used as well as it has the same command height so there should be no issues.
Before the M16A4 & M4 with detachable handles came into general service, this was the way to use the Aimpoint sight.
the Small Arms Integration Manual (SAIM) on AKO will show you everything you ever wanted to know about Mounting Optics, Boresighting, etc.
P.S. the Goose neck IS a SEE THRU RISER I used it for years in the Infantry pre M16A4 days
