how far away should you be able to shoot a playing card with an air rifle almost every time?

a daisy powerline 880 for instance
with a 4x scope
standing up
what would be a good distance to do this?
the furthest i can go is 40 yards out before i get out of my yard, but i can do that pretty easily

Depends on lots of stuff. Most importantly it depends on your innate understanding of ballistics and trajectory, and your ability to remember a visual sight pattern. Some people couldn't hit a playing FIELD at ten yards, others can shoot through the same hole until it has really ragged edges at 50 yards.

Too many variables, just accept that it is what it is. If you can hit a playing card at 40 yards consistently with your setup, then leave it at that. Some are better than others. I can outshoot my dad with a .22 or other rifle, but he just absolutely beats the boogers out of me when it comes to wing shots with shotgun. To each his own.

Just whatever it is you can do, strive for better. You'll get there
